Rupert, who likes to call himself The Bear, was Tilly's fiance, appearing in Let's Do It when Miranda refers to him as "Rupert Farly-Pointless or something." Tilly's pet name for him was "Poopert"

In Let's Do It, Rupert is said to be on leave form the army, and he and Tilly are making wedding plans. Tilly informs Miranda that it is exactly two months until her wedding day. Miranda finds that Rupert has no sense of personal space and stands entirely too close to her. When they meet again at the restaurant, he actually wraps his arms about her waist and rests his chin upon her shoulder, telling her "I can totally see why [Charlie's] into you." He kisses her cheek on the way out of the restaurant, seen by Stevie and Clive. Clive points out Tilly won't believe it without proof, so the two women plot a honey trap for him.

Once they all meet at Miranda's, Stevie takes Tilly to get pizza while Rupert remains with Miranda in her flat. He immediately puts the moves on her, eventually going into her bedroom where he strips to his shorts, and that is how Tilly finds him upon her return; "A waitress in Greece, army nurse in Kent, chef on the Isle of Wight ferry, and now Queen Farticus?"

Miranda and Tilly both order him out and he marches off without even retrieving his clothing. The wedding obviously off.

In In The Perfect Christmas he was mentioned by Tilly, who told Miranda and Gary that her parents had gone to the Mauritians for Christmas holiday and had invited Rupert along, hence her decision to remain in the UK. Miranda invited Penny along to her Christmas rather than have her spend it alone.

Physical Appearance[]

Rupert has short, curly brown hair and dark eyes. He has a deep voice and a bluff persona, and, in Miranda's words, "not the best breath."

Trivia[]

  • His name and nickname are a nod to Rupert the Bear, a British children's comic strip character created by Mary Tourtel; even his jacket, a camel color with window pane check, is reminiscent of the cartoon character who famously wears a yellow scarf and trousers with the same design.
